Question and Answers

Q:

My Kenmore washer (11020432990) will not drain. There is no sound, it just stops.

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If your washer will operate in the agitation cycles and it will not run in order to drain and spin, I suspect a broken or faulty lid switch.

I added a video showing how to access and replaced the lid switch assembly. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your washer.

The lid switch #3949238 for Kenmore washer model 110.20432990 can be ordered from Sears Parts Direct.

Q:

How do you get back off Kenmore washer ??

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Put all the screws back in. The rear panel is not designed to come off for servicing. The washer cabinet is designed to come off for servicing.

In order to access components under the top will require removing the washer cabinet.

  1. First, disconnect the power cord from the power source.
  2. The console will need to be placed in the service position by removing two (2) hidden screws, one (1) screw is located at the bottom of the left hand end cap and one (1) screw is located at the bottom of the right hand end cap.
  3. In order to access these two (2) hidden screws, the left hand end cap cover and under the right hand end cap cover will need to be removed.
  4. To remove the end cap cover, place you finger behind the cover at the very top and bend it up enough to clear the console and then hinge it towards the front and off.
  5. Remove the screws at the bottom of each end cap . Slide the console forwards about 1/4 inch and the raise it upwards and hinge it over the rear panel.
  6. Disconnect the 3 wire lid switch harness plug located on the top. Pop the two (2) gold colored cabinet retainer clips off.
  7. Place the tip of a flat tipped screw driver down into the first valley on the cabinet retainers and then push the handle end to the rear of the washer to pop off the cabinet retainer clips.
  8. Open the lid and grab the opening and tilt the top of the washer cabinet forwards just a few degrees and then walk it backwards and off. See image below. If the images below are too small, I will add a response in the thread with larger images.
  9. The lid switch mounted under the main top is now accessible to remove and replace.

Reverse the procedure to re-assemble the washer.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

kenmore washer will not drain in drain cucle

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. If the motor is not running when it advances into the spin cycle, then the likely failure is the lid switch. If the lid switch has failed, the washer motor will not come on in any of the drain and spin cycles.

If the motor is running and the basket is spinning, then there would have to be a blockage in the tub to pump hose, drain hose or in the pump.

In order to access the lid switch and drain pump, the washer cabinet will have to be taken off from the base. The lid switch is mounted to the bottom of the top and the drain pump is connected to the main motor.

I added a video from YouTube on removing the washer cabinet . The video is on how to replace the motor coupler but you will not have to do that. It will show how to remove the cabinet and then you can access the lid switch and the drain pump. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the washer before placing the console in the service position.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
