Question and Answers

Q:

Broken Kenmore washer --Model 11020096992

A:

A problem with that motor centrifugal switch is the normal cause of a clicking in that motor. A wiring failure can also cause that problem. I recommend that you check the wiring connections on that motor switch. I provided a wiring diagram in the image below. That motor centrifugal switch is difficult to check. You would need to manually activate that switch and then check the continuity through the contacts as shown in the image below to see if it is working properly. If you are able to check that switch and determine that it is bad, then the drive motor will need to be replaced. You can order that motor from the Sears PartsDirect website. That part number that you have for the drive motor is correct. Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing and replacing that motor.

Here is a link for a procedure that shows how to check that start capacitor: How to Check a Start Capacitor . Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing internal components . You will also need to use a screwdriver with an insulated handle to short across those capacitor leads to discharge that capacitor before handling it. If that capacitor is not properly discharged, it can shock you if it is still holding a charge. If you are not confident that you can safely access and test that component, I recommend that you have a service technician check it. Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need it: Sears Home Services .

If that capacitor is bad, then it will need to be replaced.

These tips may help you diagnose and repair this spin failure in your washer. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.
