Question and Answers

Q:

i have a hoover carpet cleaner model . The brushes won't turn what should I look for? it is a 11/2 yrs old used about 5 times

A:

Thank you for your question.

  • It looks like you have done the simple fix for this problem..

  • The brush assembly on this model has a air turbine driven brush. If for some reason the air flow is blocked or has a leak it will not turn the turbine motor. When checking for brush operation, make sure you are releasing the handle into the cleaning position so the air gate will open to operate the brush assembly. Also check the spin/scrub selector just below the recovery tank to make sure it is in the spin mode.

  • Please check the docking seal on the recovery tank to make sure is did not become dislodged.

  • Please unplug carpet cleaner from the wall outlet.

  • Remove the water solution tank and set aside and then remove the recovery tank and put that aside.

  • Turn the unit up side down so you can get at the brush assembly. Locating the plastic retainer clips that secure the brush assembly into the base, compress and remove the brush assembly. There is a drive pin on the brush assembly that links with the turbine motor. Make sure it is still engaging into the turbine motor assembly.

  • If this all checks ok then we will have to remove the screws and housings to gain access to the internal components of the carpet cleaner, to check the air gate that when you break the handle over to use the unit it will open the air duct to operate the turbine and brush assembly.

  • At this point I would suggest you take this carpet cleaner in for service, so it can be dismantled and have the air flow seals on the motor and the air turbine checked for operation.

Q:

what does f 11 mean on your washer mean

A:

Thank you for your question.

The FdL and F11 fault code indicates that you have a problem with the door lock assembly or motor control communication to the main control. A failed door lock often causes this but it can also be caused by a failed wiring harness connection or in some instances by a failed control board.

Check for damage to the door hook on the washer door and look for anything that could be clogging the catch on the door lock assembly on the front panel of the washer.

You may need to check the wire harness connections on the door lock assembly, main control, and the motor control. The images below show the procedure for accessing the door lock assembly, main control, and motor control on this type of washer. Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing internal components.

I have seen the failure be caused by a door lock and a faulty machine control board. A little trick I have found is to remove the top of the washer and push down lightly on the connector that is labeled dls5 this connector should have four black wires. This connector is located on the machine control board under the top. Use an insulated screwdriver to push on the connector and start a cycle. If the door locks, I recommend replacing the machine control. It has a bad solder joint on the board. We often see error code F11 also with bad solder joints on the control board. If pushing on the connector did not make a difference, I would suspect a faulty door lock first.
