Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore 110 dryer heat?

A:

Make sure that the gas supply valve is open on the dryer and that it has a proper gas supply.

If the igniter is not glowing on your gas valve assembly, then you could have an open thermal fuse. The following link of a previous answer provides the procedure for accessing and checking this component on a common Kenmore dryer: Why won't my Kenmore dryer heat? NOTE: Unplug the dryer before accessing internal components.

If your dryer does not have the bottom front service panel, then the thermal fuse is likely on the blower housing that can be accessed by removing the back panel (after unplugging the dryer).

The following link of a previous answer explains the operation of the gas valve assembly: Why won’t the igniter glow on my gas dryer?

Understanding this theory of operation may help you determine the failure that is preventing your dryer from heating.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore 110 dryer (there are many different models that begin with 110).

I thank you for your question. To find the age of a product you need the serial number. I have provided you with the table on how to determine the age of your washer. Q:

Kenmore washer 110. 20402990

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom I'm thinking the lid switch may be faulty/broken and not a timer issue. If the washer basket becomes off balanced during a spin cycle it could break the lid switch preventing the washer from operating in the drain and spin cycles.

The lid switch can be tested with an Ohm meter. In order to access the lid switch will require placing the console in the service position. The lid switch quick disconnect harness plug can be disconnected from the top of the washer and tested by placing the ohm meter leads into the two outside harness connections. You would need to place the Ohm meter leads in the two outside terminals on the connector mounted on the washer top and not the loose end of the wire harness connector.

I also added a YouTube video showing how to access and test the lid switch with an ohm meter. The video shows how to remove the cabinet in order to access and replace the lid switch. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your washer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
