Q:

Craftsman metal cutting (horizontal) band saw

A:

Thank you for your question.  I will be happy to assist you. I looked for a copy of the manual for your model. Due to the age of the unit I could not find the manual. That should be ok because most saws are set up the same. I found a video that shows how to install and adjust the blade. Click here to watch the video.  The TPI will depend on what thickness you plan on cutting. I used a 14 PTI bi metal blade. This blade cut most of what I needed to cut.   I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.  Thank you for using Manage my life.Mark

Q:

horizontal bandsaw question

A:

Thank you for your question.   I am sorry you are having problems with the saw. I believe the cylinder on this unit is hydraulic. It uses jack oil in side of it. To add oil you need to remove the plug in the top of the cylinder. Then add oil to about 3/4 full. Then check the operation. If the arm does not go down slowly, the seals in the cylinder are defective. The cylinder can be rebuilt and the parts for rebuilding it can be ordered from the following link. Parts for metal band saw model 10822920.I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark

Richard, I looked up the parts list again. According to the parts list the cylinder and the bottom cap is one piece. I suspect it is welded or brazed. I recommend cleaning the cylinder to remove all the oil. Then clean the area with a wire brush. Once clean, you can braze the end to seal it. This should cure the leak. Just be sure not to clamp on the tube too hard. It could bend it once you heat it up. Please let me know if you get it working. It is cool to see these old tools still being used. I had an old J head mill I rebuilt and worked great. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark
