Craftsman Rear Engine Riding Mower Battery

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry you are having a problem with removing the battery. The battery cover should be secured on each side with fasteners. Once the fasteners are removed, you should be able to pull the cover out on the sides. Then take the cover off. The instructions for removing the cover are posted below. We don't have a shop manual available for that mower. I recommend that you use the brake components parts page as a reference and examine the brake system. You may be able to adjust the brake cable or find a broken component after examining the brake system using the part diagram as a reference.

If the tractor dies when you let out the clutch, check the seat switch wiring. Replace the seat switch if defective.
