Question and Answers

Q:

How do I remove faceplate from my dispenser? it is a kenmore coldspot 10657282791

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the dispenser. The cover for the dispenser is held on with locking tabs around the perimeter. I have provided you with the instructions below for removing the cover. Once the cover is removed, you will see a bracket that has the light and two micro switches mounted to it. Usually this bracket is what is broken when the dispenser will not work. If the switch on the left side is loose order, part number 2180226. It can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

Note unplug the refrigerator before you remove the dispenser cover.

If you need further assistance, please reply below.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for using Manage my life.

Q:

How do I replace my door mechanism on side-by-side refrigerator model 10657282791 with new part #8201649?

A:

Unplug the refrigerator to disconnect electrical power. Remove the drip tray (Key 9 in the first image below). On some models you will find two screws at the bottom of the housing (Key 23). If you find screws, remove them and then remove the dispenser housing cover. If your housing does not have screws, it will need to be pried off. This will give you access to the screws that hold the control bracket (Key 15) in place. Remove the screws that secure the control bracket and position it out of the way. This should give you access so that you can snap out the plastic shield (Key 12) and the paddle (Key 11) as shown in the second image below. You should then be able to pull out the pin as shown below and replace the flapper door.

Make sure that you use all of the new parts in the kit.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.

Q:

The trap door for the ice is literally hanging, how difficult is it to fix/replace?

A:

To replace the flapper door on your refrigerator disconnect the power to the refrigerator.

  • On the bottom edge of the trim around the dispenser are two notches for a flatblade screwdriver blade to fit and pry it off. Pry it off and lift the trim up to clear the tabs at the top. Let the outer trim hang by the wires going to it.

  • Remove the 2 screws holding the bracket across the top of the dispenser area and carefully swing the bracket back and out of your way.

  • Now you can see the cradle and the flapper door. The flapper door is held to the cradle by a pin and there is a spring on it. Note the position of the spring so you can reinstall it when you put the new flapper door in.

  • There is also a small ribbon connector that connects the wiring from the flapper door to the harness inside the dispenser area. Disconnect it and you can replace the flapper door.

The part number for the flapper door is 2180205 and the cost is around $25.00. If you will log on to www.sears.com and select parts and enter your model number you can see a parts diagram of the dispenser of your refrigerator. Looking at the parts diagram will make following these instructions easier.
