Question and Answers

Q:

refrigerator

A:

Check to see if the compressor is running. If that compressor is running but you are getting no cooling then you have a sealed system failure. A service technician will need to diagnose and repair that type of problem. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If the compressor is not running, you could have a failed compressor or a bad start relay. A technician would need to perform the repair if you have a bad compressor since it would involve the recovery and recharge of the refrigerant (sealed) system. If the relay is bad, you could unplug the refrigerator and replace that component yourself. That would be the only chance that you have to fix this problem if the compressor is not running. You can order the start relay from the Sears PartsDirect website if you suspect that the start relay is causing this failure. The part number for the start relay on your refrigerator is probably going to be 8201786 if the compressor is still the original one that was installed at the factory and has not been replaced during a previous service call. Here is a link for a video that shows how to replace that component: Changing the Start Relay on a Refrigerator Compressor . That video shows a do-it-yourself repair instead of a service technician instructing you on the replacement. That information should help you if you want to attempt to fix the refrigerator on your own.
