Question and Answers

Q:

I have an error message E0 - F5 on my gas range, door won't unlock

A:

Thank you for your question.

Having the oven door locked and you cannot get it open is a real concern.

Since you were in the self clean mode it may have caused a problem with the door light switch circuit when it came up with a F5 error code.

Since the door is locked, and pushing the cancel button after re-setting the power did not help, we will need to get to the lock mechanism.

  • If you feel comfortable with and have some mechanical ability, I can help you get the door unlocked.

  • First REMOVE POWER to the range.

  • Pull the range out from the wall and locate and remove the screws that secure the back panel on the range.

  • Locate the lock rotor mechanism just below the control panel. I have given a picture below.

  • You will need to remove the screws that fasten the lock rotor to the range.

  • Turn the rotor mechanism at an angle so you can pull out the lock rod on the rotor. This will release the door hook, so you can get it open. With the door open re-install the lock rotor rod and fasten back onto the range.

  • With the door now open you can locate the door switch and with a sharp tool get in behind the edge and push in to release the tabs on the door switch and pull out.

Examine the door switch wires from the switch connections back to the control board. If they look ok then replace the door switch.

  • Replace the door switch with part number;3196262 and if the door switch wires are ok it should fix your problem.

You can order the door light switch from;Sears Parts Direct .

  • Once you have the light switch replaced and you have the range powered back up push on the door switch with your thumb and hold and put the range in self clean for 30 seconds and then cancel the clean cycle to reset the door hook.

  • Re-install the back cover and put range back into position.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
