Q:

Kenmore Microwave Model 401.80089700 (Black)

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Generally speaking the symptom you describe could indicate a faulty touch panel, a loose connection at the ribbon connection where it connects to the main control board or a control board failure.

I am sorry, but we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. That's why I strongly warn you to have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME.

Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous.

Q:

Have a Kenmore gas dryer, model 110.72812100. Tumbles, but no heat.

A:

Hi Paul,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

From your description and the readings you gave, you have a bad ignitor. You do not mention whether or not the ignitor is glowing. Make sure that the gas shut-off valve is fully open and that the dryer has an adequate gas supply provided to it (simple step but should not be overlooked). Pull the observation plug on the lower left side of the front panel underneath the dryer door so that you can observe the gas valve assembly when the dryer is running in a heated cycle. Start a heated cycle and see if the igniter is glowing on the gas valve assembly.

Please check the things I have detailed here and report back with your findings. I am looking forward to assisting you again in the near future.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Hi Paul, Good job! That is the information I was looking for. From what you have told me now you most likely do need valve coils (part number 279834). I am including a video below that demonstrates replacing this kit. I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post. Landell

Q:

Soft Water Systems, U.V. Disinfection - Salt Level Issues

A:

The technician may have tested the water with the system bypassed to get accurate measurements of the original hardness and other water conditions. A hardness test can normally be performed by the technician at the home. The technician probably checked that. I recommend that you call the technician to see if he tested the house water without bypassing the system. He may be able to give you the results of that test.

If you need more help, reply with additional details.
