GE electronic-controlled refrigerator error codes

These error code explanations can help you diagnose a problem with your GE refrigerator with a digital display on the dispenser control panel.

Error codes appear on the dispenser control panel display when the electronic control board detects component failures. When an error code appears:

  1. Match the error code on your refrigerator with the error code in the chart below.

  2. Make sure that the condition listed with the error code is the same as the symptom(s) shown by your refrigerator.

Check frozen foods for thawing

Check/Repair

Freezer temperature has been above normal for more than 2 hours. Make sure that the refrigerator and freezer doors are closed properly. Replace the door gaskets if damaged. Press the System Check button to clear the error code and check for other system failures. If the PF code appears, then the FF code was likely caused by a power failure. Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to allow the interior temperatures to recover.

Power has been interrupted

Check/Repair

Make sure that the power cord is properly plugged into the electrical outlet. Replace the power cord if damaged. Check the condition of food in the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Discard any spoiled food. Press the System Check button to clear the error code and check for other failures.

Ice maker not operating properly

Check/Repair

Clear jammed ice cubes from the ice mold. If the ice mold isn't filling with water, restore the water supply to the ice maker. If you turned off the water intentionally, also turn off the ice. Press the System Check button to clear the error code and check for other system failures. If the CI code reappears, replace the ice maker assembly.

Defrost system error

Check/Repair

The defrost cycle has not run for more than 48 hours. Unplug the refrigerator and reconnect any loose wires in the defrost system. Replace the wire harness if damaged. Replace the defrost heater if damaged. It may be normal for the refrigerator to operate without defrosting for more than 48 hours when operating in a space that's below 55 degrees F. Reset the code by pressing the System Check button.

Freezer temperature has been above normal for more than 2 hours. Adjust the controls according to the instructions in your owner's manual. Close the refrigerator and freezer doors completely. Replace the door gaskets if damaged. Press the System Check button to clear the error code and check for other system failures.
