Freezer works fine but the interior light flashes on and off and temperature control flashes when I open the door 253.28052801

I have an upright freezer Model # 253.28052801 that I bought about 3 years ago. The freezer is working fine but the interior lights have started blinking on and off at random times. This started about two weeks ago. Sometimes when I open the freezer door the interior light will continually blink on and off and will continue doing this as long as I have the door open. At the same time the temperature control on the outside of the door will flash on and off. When I close the door the temperature will indicate 8 for a few seconds and will then reset itself to 4, which is where I normally set the temperature. Then everything goes back to normal. This does not happen every time I open the door but happens randomly. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the information about your freezer model 253.28052801, sorry you are having a problem I will be glad to assist you. Based on the description you have provided here are a couple possible causes. First the light, the light is controlled by a door switch located at the bottom right side of the cabinet. It is a simple open/closed circuit switch, open door light comes on close door light goes off. The interior light flickering may be this switch contacts going bad, or it could be the light bulb and last it could be the socket of the light and wiring. These will need to be tested and checked to determine the exact issue. The issue with the display could be a harness or wiring connection at the door hinge (when open door loses connection or the control display either going bad or loosing good connection at the board itself.  One remote possibility with the control would be if you have lost the ground at your wall outlet or the plug the display could change and scroll. I hope these tip help you located the cause of your issues, if you need a technician here is the link to Sears Home Services. If you should need parts here is a link to Sears Parts Direct. Ron H.

Thanks for the response. Both of these events happen at the same time. Never separately. When the door is opened, IF the interior light is flashing the display is also flashing. Why are these events both happening at the same time. The events do not happen every time the door is opened. Any more suggestions? Thanks
