Nextec 320 10003 Drill/Driver Gears skipping 320 10003
Is the cause of the gears skipping, sounding like they are stripped, repairable with adjustment of the shifting "hoop" of the shift button or is the NYLON ring gear the culprit? NONE of the gears are broken or srtripped and the nylon ring gear APPEARS fine but the drill skips in the FORWARD position no matter if in LOW or HIGH. Reverse doesn't seem to show the skipping but I may not have stressed it enough as is normal in forward. It is NOT an obvious problem with the TORQUE setting mechanism that I can tell. The skipping action adn sound is MUCH faster/higher pitch than the torque skipping when setting is reached. Any help out there or do I just have to replace the gears box. Thanks, Old Man

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.
It would be difficult for me to say but you could remove the clutch assembly and get back down to motor output shaft/gear box on the gear case and grip it with a pair of pliers and then run the drill and see if it skips and makes the stripping sound. If it does, then I would have to suspect gear case assembly will need to be replaced because it is not serviceable.
I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thanks, Joey, I worked as a tool-repair tech, 15 years ago, on other brands' of cordless and corded tools, but not Craftsman so thought replacing the gearcase would be the only option but hoped. Got down to what you suggested and nothing appears wrong with the nylon ring gear but it doesn't take much for that part to allow the spider gears to skip. Which it does. Thanks again, I'll get the case ordered Soon J C
