My Kenmore electric dryer, Model 110.60022010, will not run.

The dryer will initially start when the start button is pushed. However, when the button is released, it stops running. The dryer will continue to run as long as the button is held but after several seconds it will stop. It seems that there is some sort of cut-off switch that will not allow the dryer to run with the button pushed in and held. Because after some time, the dryer re-sets and I can start it again. But again, the dryer will not continue when the button is released. There is also an odd odor being emitted that can be smelled when the dryer door is opened. This dryer is just over a year old.

I understand how frustrating this can be. While you are waiting on an expert to response to your question, I suggest you set service with a Sears technician at SearsHomeService.com website so they can fix this for you. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details, there could be a couple reasons preventing the motor from staying on. The black wire connected to terminal 6M at the motor could be loose, disconnected or broken, or the motor centrifugal switch is not closing contacts 5M and 6M once the motor starts.

The odd odor is most likely emitting from the motor. When the start button is pressed and held to keep the motor running, if contact 5M is not opening and dropping the start circuit out in the motor, the motor will overheat and eventually shut off on the thermal over load in the motor.

I added three images to reference below.

The motor is part #279827 for Kenmore dryer model 110.60022010 which can be ordered from Searspartsdirect.

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

I have this same problem with my dryer of the same model. What was the part that fixed the dryer?

Michael: Look at the wiring diagram I posted in the my answer. If the dryer starts when the start switch is pushed and then quits running when start is released, it could have faulty motor centrifugal switch. When the motor starts, the contacts inside the motor centrifugal switch must close contacts 5M and 6M or the motor will not remain running. Check and see if the Black wire connected to terminal 6M is loose, disconnected or broken between the motor and where it splices in with light blue wire as shown in the wiring diagram in my first answer in this thread. If the wire is not broken or disconnected, it will likely need a new motor. Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

I own the same model Kenmore dryer. The push to start button won't start dryer. The power source is correct and properly operating. I have replaced the timer but it did not solve the problem. I located the thermal fuse and examined it. The strip between the connectors is black in color but doesn't appear broken. Does this fuse need to be replaced? Please provide any and all repair suggestions. Thank you
