Error message Er 1F on Kenmore Elite bottom freezer
What does Er 1F mean? The fridge seems to be cold, but the control panel doesn't work. We unplugged it and it reset and worked for about 8 hours, then we got the message again. Model 79572053.110

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.
This error code Er IF indicates a problem with the icemaker fan motor but it can also be with the main control board.
I added a link to a previous answer to what Er 1F means.
If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

Got ER 1F after hearing a fan scraping noise for a few days. Called sears and they informed me that my warranty ran out last month... figures. They tried to sell me a $300 service plan scaring me with all sorts of worst case senarios including board failure compressor failure etc. I didn't like being backed into a corner, so I decided to say no and schedule the appt. After a few mins, I decided to take matters into my own hands and cancelled the appointment. The noise came from the inside middle of the fridge, so I unloaded everything and removed the back panel (you have to remove 2 small white cover above and below the rack in the middle). The inside of that panel which included the coil and the circulatoin fan was frozen solid. Same for the freezer which was 10x worse. Took the panels out and blow dried everything to remove all the water. Decided to inspect the fans and found them to be well designed and in order. Put everything back in and everything worked perfect and no food spoiled waiting for ice to melt per other recommendations I found on the internet. I'm sure waiting 4 hours with it unplugged is not enough to melt what I saw, so I'm sure several have tried that with no success. Although the individual parts of this fridge seem to be well made, the design is inheritly flawed as it cannot handle an iced over condition. I also think it iced over because of the freezer door being cracked open slightly, allowing moisture to invade. The freezer needs to be redesigned to close more forcibly. My 2 cents.
