What does F2 error code mean on a Kenmore oven model 911.40161690?

I had a 24 Kenmore wall oven start giving me F2 error messages, so I put one in from my neighbor's house that he didn't need anymore. Same problem....so I am thinking it must be some type of electrical problem instead of the oven???? I don't want to call out a repairman if it isn't the oven, but can't find the right error code or manual!!! Help!

the "f2" error code indicates that the oven is getting too hot in temperature while baking or while in the cleaning mode cycle. (oven control senses an oven temperature above 615 degrees)

possible causes:

  • welded relay contacts (heating element on while oven is in the off mode)
  • high resistance in the oven temperature sensor probe or high resistance in the oven temperature sensor probe circuit.
  • electrical noise interference in the sensor circuit (ham radio, cordless phone etc.)

the oven temperature sensor will need to be removed and disconnected and measured with an ohm meter. it should have a resistance measurement of 1100 ohms at room temperature. if the resistance is approximately 1100 ohms at the oven sensor reconnect it and then the oven sensor harness will need to be disconnected from the oven control board and re-measured. if it reads approximately 1100 ohms the likely failure is the control board or rf interference. (ham radio, cordless phone etc.)

the oven sensor can be found secured to the rear wall inside the oven cavity. it will secured by two screws. remove the oven sensor and disconnect the two wires and then using an ohm meter measure the resistance across the two wires. note: disconnect power to oven before servicing the oven.
