Gas leaking into the air filter on my mower.

I tilted my mower toward the gas side of it, and when I changed the air filter it was soaking wet with gasoline. I removed the air filter and tilted the mower and gas was dripping out where the air filter should've been. Can I assume that this is something that should not be happening, or is it just because I tilted the mower the wrong way?

Concerning the gas leaking into my air filter when I tilt it to clean the underbelly, the mower is a Toro Electric Start Mower, Model # 20041.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Tilting or leaning the mower over can result in gas leaking into the air filter and filter housing.

The carburetor bowl and float assembly will have gas in it and if the mower is tilted, the fuel can leak into the air filter. Remove and dry the air filter and it should be okay.  If fuel continues to leak into the air filter when the mower is upright, the needle and float could be stuck inside the fuel bowl or it may need a new needle valve and seat.

This may be the issue. If not, please reply and I will be glad to assist you further.
