41AS150-1 (102 1499A) Purple smart button garage door opener won't program with new remote. Programs fine with keypad.

hello everybody, i just bought a house with a craftsman garage door opener. it has a purple smart button and its part no. is 41AS150-1. the previous owner gave me a keypad and it works fine. i can reprogram any code i want using the purple smart button. i purchased a remote from sears... http://www.sears.com/craftsman-garage-door-opener-3-function-visor-remote/p-00930498000P?prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8 and i can't get it to program. i've tried clearing the memory and programming it before the keypad. what else can i do?

the problem programming the remote can be frustrating. i did some research but was not able to find a solution. your expert will be able to help answer your question. to better help your expert, i would like to suggest adding the full model number to the garage door opener. it may take two business days for your expert to respond. i do hope that everything works out on the garage door opener.

hello roger,

i'm sorry to hear that your remote is not programming to your garage door opener.  the remote that you have is a universal type for the different technologies that are used in the different types of garage door openers.  usually the third step in programming is to press and release the remote control button that you want to use for the door.  the part that is missed is this: repeat until the lights flash (up to four times).  this is critical, as each press of the button that you want to use to operate the door causes the remote to send the different types of signal encoding until it gets to the right version.  once the lights flash, press any other remote control button except for the one that you just programmed.

i have attached a copy of the instructions at the end of this reply.  please let me know if you would like any further assistance.
