Maytag Neptune Touchpad

Model # MDG5500AWW Maytag Neptune Gas Dryer does not work. The dryer light inside the dryer is working when you open the door. At first the touchpad lights did work but the dryer wouldn't start. Also the maching would churp every once in a while. Now the churping has stopped and none of the toucepad lights work. Is this a touchpad issue? This is the second Sears applicance this year with a touchpad issue. Is this common and have they inproved the replacement touchpads?

a wiring failure could be causing this problem. i recommend that you unplug the dryer and access the control board as shown in the first image below to check the wiring connections on the control board. the second image shows the l1 line voltage supply to the control board traced in red and the neutral circuit traced in blue. the l1 wire should be black and the neutral wire should be white. there are various controls in the models of mdg5500aww neptune dryers. your dryer may vary slightly from the one shown below depending on your serial number. the serial number in a maytag dryer determines the series number or revision of the dryer. if your dryer differs from the one shown below then i recommend that you provide us with the serial number for more specific technical information. if the l1 and neutral connections to the control board are okay, then you could have a failed touch pad or a bad electronic control board. the bottom of the first image provides a pin-out check for the membrane pad. you may be able to use this information to check the key pad operation. if the membrane keypad is okay, then your likely failure is in the electronic control board. without the serial number, i am not able to provide specific part numbers for components on this dryer. the series number is the first 2 digits of the serial number on a maytag dryer. when ordering parts for a maytag dryer that has series numbers listed, you will need the part with the highest series number that is less than or equal to the series number that you have. if you need help ordering parts, let us know.

this is a more complicated repair than the range problem that you submitted. if you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a sears technician. here is a link for the website: sears home services .

i am not aware of any common touchpad or electronic control failures in this dryer. the replacement touchpad for your dryer will be the same as the original touchpad. the failure rate of this component is normal -- about 4 to 5%.

i am unable to see the diagrams mentioned, and having the same problem. obvious power to the unit, because the lights are on, but the touchpad will work intermittently. i have model #: mdg5500aww serial #: 62778602ct
