Error Codes on Kenmore Stove?

What does error code F3 and F5 mean on my 1997 Kenmore Stove (PLT059-2)? This happens sometimes when the oven is on. We purchased this home 5 years ago and we do not have a owner's manual.

providing a model number would definitely help an expert better your search. if you would like to resubmit your question i would be more than happy to assist you. have a great day!

i am not able to access specific technical information on your range using the number plt059-2. on the 1997 kenmore ranges, the f3 normally indicated that a problem was detected with the oven temperature sensor probe. the f5 usually indicated that you have a failed electronic oven control board.

if you reply with a full model number for the kenmore range, we can likely help you further. the kenmore model number is normally on the side of the oven cavity opening. open the oven door to view this area. on some ranges, it is on the base of the range in front of the right front leveling leg. pull out the bottom drawer to view this area. the kenmore model number will start with 3 numbers such as 911 or 790. it will have dot (".") and then it will usually have 8 more numbers.

if you have a volt/ohm meter, you can unplug the range and check the resistance of the oven temperature sensor probe. the image below shows how to access this component. the resistance on most of the sensor probes in the 1997 kenmore ranges usually measured around 1100 ohms at room temperature. you will likely need to replace the sensor probe if it is "open" (measures ol -- open load or infinite resistance) or measure near zero ohms (short).

you can order parts from the sears partsdirect website. use the full kenmore model number to access the parts list and diagram for your range.

if you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a sears technician. here is a link for the website: sears home services .
