Kenmore Elite HE4t washer
The washer is showing an error message 11F and will not operate. The door locks and stays locked. Does this mean a control board issue only, or could other things be wrong also?

Error code F11 is a communication error between the central control unit (CCU) and the motor control unit (MCU).
The checks normally done for this error are to the wiring harness for the motor and central control units. The drive system should also be checked for worn or failed components. These are tests normally done by a qualified technician. You can schedule a Sears technician here; Sears Home Services .
You can try disconnecting power to the washer for a minute to see if it will clear, but this error does usually return. I would recommend making sure the door is making good contact when starting a cycle. If you feel comfortable checking the wiring to the components, the images below will help. Remember to disconnect power to the washer before any service or repairs . Any needed parts can be located at; Sears Parts Direct .
If further assistance is needed, please reply. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Chris - The information Barbara, above, has given is accurate and useful. The following may also be of some help.
Your machine was manufactured by Whirlpool and is essentially a re-badged "Duet". There is a Shop Manual for this series of washers and their Kenmore cousins at:
this may not be exactly like your washer but should be close enough for your purposes. The possible causes of the F11 error code are given on page 6-6.
How comfortable are you checking the electrical and electronic components? The F11 error can be one of the most elusive to track down but it should not be beyond many DIY people with sufficient instructions and suitable test equipment.
