Kenmore fridge loud fan noise

My Kennmore fridge, only 14 months old,but no longer under warranty is sounding like it is going to explode. It periodically makes loud noises in the fan area. Really, loud. The noise stops when the upper fridge door is open. Ocassionally the noise is completely gone. Sometimes it is noiser than other times. Sound like a loud fan trying to die. Serial #795.76202.901. Please Help

The fan making a loud noise can really cause some concern. I did some research and I was able to find a link with a similar question. Click here for the link. I hope this helps with your research while you wait for your expert response.

Thanks so much! How do I wait for the expert response? Do they email me or will it hit here? Thanks!! I will also check out the suggested website!

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your refrigerator. I did some research on this model and found that there was a change to the fan section of the unit. It looks like the foam installation for the fan is to long, which is prevent the water from the defrost cycle to drain out. This then creates an ice buildup and the fan hits while in use. As the refrigerator defrost, it does melt the ice but it comes back once its finished. In order to fix this, you will need to cut off the excessive foam. The image below will provide the information on how to do this.  I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thanks so very much. It will be this weekend when we get a chance to break this down and try this. We will for sure be asking questions at that point. Thanks!!!

Please post a version of the diagram showing the foam to be cut that is viewable. The first one (from AnneJ) is too small, and there is no picture or link on the second (Linda B). This noise is ridiculous and I may never buy another Kenmore product because of it, but if I can fix it things will be much better in my house, this noise is causing much stress. Thank you.
