Dryer starts but won't keep running

I have a Kenmore Elite Dryer, model 110.63932101, that won't stay running. It was running and I opened the door to take something out. I pressed the start button and it runs for a second or two but won't keep running. This has happened in the past so I turn it to off, wait a couple of seconds, and turn it again to the time I want it to run. This time that didn't work. Any suggestions on what I can try? Thanks.

Having an appliance we count on daily to start giving out can be really frustrating. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, I suggest you set service with a Sears technician. I have attached the link below. Have a nice day!

Hi Sharon,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The first image below shows a wiring diagram for your dryer with the motor start circuit traced in blue. Since the dryer starts and runs when you hold down that start switch, this indicates that every component in that circuit (including the wiring) is okay. You could have a failed start sense switch (the blue/black wire that is traced in pink on the wiring diagram) bad motor relay, or a bad electronic control board. I recommend that you unplug the dryer and open the console as shown in the second image below. You will need to remove those end caps and then remove the hidden screw that you will find under those end caps on each side of the console. You can then flip the console up and over the back panel into the service position. The third image shows the location of components in that console. Check the blue/black start sense wire to make sure that it is connected properly. If you find no problems there, I recommend that you switch the motor relay and the heater relay (those parts are the exactly the same). You will need to completely disconnect all of the wires on each of those relays and physically move them to the new locations and connect all of the wires properly for this test. The wiring diagram and other images shown below should help you switch those components. If the dryer runs properly after switching those relays, then replacing that bad relay (part 3405281) should fix this problem. If the dryer still won't continue to run after switching those relays, then you will probably need to replace that electronic control board (part W10116565).

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or purchase any parts needed for your appliance; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here and if I may be of further assistance please reply to this post.
