Craftsman 917.374544 lawn mower
I have been reading this conversation (http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/questions/301656-installation-part-434993-cable-craftsman-917374544-mower) with great interest. I also have the Craftsman 917.374544 Mower. The red drive control handle snapped off while I was cutting grass. The mower is still under warranty and I was sent the entire drive control unit long with the attached drive control wire with the fittings that attach to the drive motor/belt. Based on the above existing conversation and especially the photos, it looks like I could just replace the red plastic handle within the drive control unit instead of installing the entire unit. I have no problem replacing the drive unit itself, but what concerns me is the wire that is attached to the actual drive motor and/or belt. Could I just replace the red lever itself if I open up both drive units? I am quite familiar with installing garbage disposals and doing plumbing, but messing with the drive motor of a lawn mower concerns me!
