Sears GT 5000 garden tractor Model # 917.276070-121048002588 the push rod for valves on botton valve is missing I think it is the intake is floppy loose and will not work the valve It will not start also how old is it as it was given to us? David

The tractor looks to be a 2004 model (according to the serial number).

If the pushrod is missing then it is very likely down in the engine. That absolutely has to be retrieved or it will end up causing catastrophic failure. Once you get the push rod out you can use the engine model number (on the rocker arm cover) to order a new push rod if the one in the engine is damaged. The valves should all be set to .004.

The engine is likely not starting because of the pushrod situation. If the valve can't open then it's not going to run.

You can go HERE with tractor model number for tractor parts and use the engine model number for engine parts.
