My Craftsman gas trimmer model # 316.791960, which I purchased last fall and used several times started blowing oil out of the air filter.

This happened the first time I used it last week. I tried to use it again on Monday the 18th, and it happened again. It will not run when this happens.

I am understanding the issue that you have came across with the trimmer. I Have placed a link where you can view the Owner's Manual and i hope that you are able to figure out what can be causing this issue.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting the string trimmer working correctly.

The oil level on these small 4 cycle engines is very critical. It sounds like the crankcase oil is getting into the breather for the carburetor.

I believe that this engine only takes about 3.04oz. of crankcase oil.

Please check the oil level on the dip stick on a level surface.

I would suggest draining all the oil out of the crankcase and let it drain for about 10 minutes and refill the crankcase with 3.04z of 30 weight SAE oil.

Make sure that you soak up all the oil on the air filter with a paper towel.

I usually store the 4cycle models in the upright position with the engine on top.

If the problem still is happening you may have to take the unit in for service.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.
