when an appliance doesn't work properly or gives out it can be very disappointing because you don't really know what is wrong with it or you might even have to buy a whole different appliance. a suggestion i have for you while you are waiting on your response from an expert is visiting the searshomeservices.com website to set services with the sears team. i have attached the link below if you are interested in viewing while waiting on your response from an expert. hope this helps, good luck

if the reeds are good in the head assembly then i would suspect the (piston) rings as being the issue with your compressor. the only other thing would be if there is a physical leak in the system someplace. that would be unusual but not impossible. if the head has a slight crack or something along those lines you would have the same basic problem.

i checked the parts for your model and the rings are not available. most of the pump parts for this model are not available. the manufacturer considers the pump to be “not serviceable. in most cases this is due to the cost of repair versus cost of replacement.

thank you for using manage my life!

i think my problem is due to the fact that i disassembled the compressor head/valve reed assembly without noting the correct orientation of the valve reeds. i need to know the correct, exact way to re-assemble all parts. i think i have them in wrong and that's why i cannot build pressure in the tank. with detailed assembly instructions i'm sure i could get it working properly again

my compressor will not build past 35 lbs and the compressor and motor run great. there is air leaking out of the oil filler cap where the two small holes are in the very top of the cap. is this normal or what is the cause?

Don, June 12, 2012

the above compressor does not shut off at 35 lbs and continues to run.

if air is coming out of the vent in the oil cap the problem will be in the cylinder and rings. the piston rings are not sealing against the cylinder walls allowing the air to blow past and pressurize the crankcase. to repair this you will need to take the head and valve plate off. then inspect the piston, ring, and cylinder. if the cylinder wall is still smooth, you should be able to get by with replacing the piston and rings. you can order the parts from the following link. craftsman air compressor parts

have a great day!!

less than 20 hours on this compressor and mine also will not build pressure beyond 20 to 30 lbs. sad that cracksman now builds such poor quality equipment. i am 62 and when i was in my 20's to 30's craftsman equated quality. this is no longer true. cracksman tools and equipment are now second rate. i will not buy another cracksman compressor.
