From the front door to the curb, your lawn makes you the talk of the neighborhood. A good riding mower helps you maintain your lawn and improve the appearance of your home. An engine failing to start can throw a kink in your lawn maintenance plans. Make sure the engine starts every time by following these simple repair and maintenance tips.

Tune up The Engine

Routine maintenance and replacing riding mower parts can help ensure that the riding mower engine starts without any issues. Routine maintenance of the engine involves cleaning the engine cooling fins and inspecting the ignition, carburetor, battery, throttle and choke controls. Tuning up the engine might also mean replacing the engine oil, the oil filter, the air filter, the fuel filter or the spark plug. Seek professional repair help for any repairs you are unsure of performing yourself.

Replace the Battery

An engine that won't start requires lawn tractor repair help to perform adequately. An old, worn-out battery could be the source of the problem. Recharge the battery, and try to start the engine. If the engine fails to turn over, note the position of the battery, and install a replacement.

Replace the Fuel Filter

Failing to perform routine maintenance on your riding mower can lead to engine problems. Old fuel filters impede the operation of the engine by allowing debris to get into the carburetor. Prevent this problem by changing the filter once a year. Unclamp the fuel lines from the filter, and position the new filter in place. Clamp the filter to the fuel lines, and start the engine to check for leaks.
