Question and Answers

clean coils easy way? compressor very hot...just changed inverter ZFSB23DRASS Ge Refrigerator r series

Thanks for the inquiry and for using

The compressor can be hot to the touch if it's been running for a while, this would be normal. Besides the coil cleaning, make sure the condenser fan motor is cleaned of any lint and that the fan is spinning.

Cleaning the coils will help cool the compressor. The best thing to clean them (a little messy but does a good job) is to use a compressor and blow compressed air through the coils. This will ensure that all the coils are cleaned. Outside of that, you can use or purchase a refrigerator coil brush to clean the coils, however, they can still have issues getting between some of the coils depending on the set up. I have also seen vacuum attachments being used to clean the coils, but they tend to not get between the coils and are not too effective.

Usually the coil can be accessed from the front grille. Then use a coil brush and a vacuum to clean the coil. If the coil cannot be seen when you remove the grille it will have to be cleaned from the backside. To do this pull the refrigerator out from the wall and unplug it.

If you would like to purchase a refrigerator coil brush, I have included a blue link below that you may click on to be directed to the PartsDirect page to view and purchase the brush.
