Question and Answers

Q:

Do I need to remove a nut that I dropped into the dryer while changing it from a 3 to 4 prong plug?

A:

I assume that you dropped the nut down into the cabinet below the terminal block. The nut likely fell down and is resting on the floor of the dryer cabinet. It should not interfere with the dryer operation. If the dryer runs and works properly and is not making any abnormal noise then you can just leave the nut inside the cabinet. If you want to locate and remove it, you will need to unplug the dryer and hinge open the top panel. The image below shows how to release the clips that secure the front of the top panel to the front panel of the dryer. You may also have to remove the front panel. Follow the steps to unplug the door switch and remove the screws at the top of the front panel and then carefully lift the front panel off of the dryer if necessary. It is held on the front of the dryer cabinet with locator pins. NOTE: If you are not completely confident that you can safely remove the front panel and then reassemble the dryer properly, call a service technician to remove the screw from inside the dryer cabinet if necessary.
