Can anyone tell me why the cold water won't work in my washer?

A:

Your symptoms point to a failed water temperature switch or a wiring failure. The wiring diagram for your washer is shown in the first image below. The second image shows the path for current to your cold water valve in the final rinse mode (top) and the regular wash cycle. Since the path in the top of the second image is obviously completed since the cold water valve works in final rinse, the failure that you are having is likely in the water temperature switch or the wiring through this switch. It is likely that you can fix this problem by replacing the water temperature switch (part 3954758). You can order this part from the Sears PartsDirect website. The water temperature switch is Key 35 in the third image below.

NOTE: If you replace this switch yourself, be sure that you unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components.
