An item stuck between the spin basket and the outer tub of the washer could be causing this problem. With the washer empty and turned off, see if the spin basket will rotate freely by hand. If you detect some resistance or suspect that there is an item stuck between the spin basket and the outer tub, you can unplug the washer and pull the basket out of the washer as shown in the first image provided below.

If your washer has an agitator instead of an impeller like the one shown in the first image below, you will need to use the procedure in the second image to pull the spin basket out (with the washer unplugged ).

If you find no problems with an item being stuck between the basket and the tub, then you could have a problem with the shaft that sticks up from the bottom of the washer tub. If you need more help, submit additional details and the full model number of your Cabrio washer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

ok I just had this problem with this and my washer was progressivly giving me the unballanced load called my repair guy and he said it was probbaly the suspension rods the washer has 4 of them and they work like shocks for the tub and if they go bad than they allow the drum to spin wildly. we replaced the suspension rods and bingo the washer was working like new.

Thanks Charlie. I am glad that you pointed out that failure and fix. In some situations, the suspension rods can apparently cause the unbalanced problem in that type of washer. That information can help other readers who face the same problem.

I have a Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6500WW1 that keeps kicking the UL error code as well. It is only 4 years old. In doing some online research I was seeing so many people suggest changing the suspension rods. So I replaced all 4 and I am still getting the error. We did not see anything stuck in between the basket and outer tub. I called a local service company and they suggested that maybe it is the bearings. Any other suggestions? Thoughts?

I'm having similar issue with cabrio wtw6600sw2, UL error with nothing in machine. I just did a bearing seal replacement, basket is spinning freely, there is no bouncing or excessive movement, but get UL on spin cycle. At drain & spin get UL at 9 minutes. Now if I lean the machine back against the wall as if to work on it underneath, it works. Now I just tried med speed spin cycle and it worked, got uL on high speed, med worked 3 x's now......Confussed

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your washer display the error code sd. We are here to help. The error code sd stands for suds detection. This is a he washer which requires he detergent. If you are not using that type of soap, that will trigger the sd code.

Another cause of this problem is the basket not engaging the drive hub. This washer has a basket that floats up as the water fills and drops down when the water drains out. If for some reason the tub doesn't engage with the hub then control will trigger the SD code. If not suds then clothes can get beneath the basket and prevent it from docking with the hug. This might require removing the wash basket and checking for obstructions. See the image below for help with this. I hope this helps.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. You may visit SearsHomeServices.com and click on the red Start now button.

Hi John, I have also have a Whirlpool Cabrio HE washer with error code SD. The model # is WTW6600SW2 and serial # CU0171473. The error code would appear after most of the wash cycle was completed, it would get to the last 13 minutes and start to go back and forth, not fully spinning. After a few minutes it would beep and the "SD" code would appear. I have followed the diagram on removing the impeller to see if anything is blocked underneath, but am having trouble removing it. I have tried lifting the basket to pop it up but it will not budge. Currently I have soaked the nut in penetrating oil to try and loosen it. Do you have any advice on this? Also what could be the problem if it is not blocked by clothes? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Peter, Soak the nut with PB Blaster instead. It work a little better than penetrating oil. After you spray it with PB Blaster wait 30 minutes before you attempt to loose it. It should break loose, it screws into the plastic wash plate. What tool are you using? I recommend a socket and ratchet.

I am having the same issue that Peter is having. I have been able to remove impeller and the basket but there doesn't seem to be anything impeding it. I just recently replaced the outertub to fix a problem with the bearings & seals. When I put everything back together this issue came up which was NOT happen prior to the new outer tub being installed. Any help would be welcome.

Mark, Here is some other causes of the Suds detected error code. If the basket cannot engage during the spin cycle. Some other cause of mechanical friction. Also, did you clean the lint filter as show on the picture below. IF the inter tub in not installed properly into the outer tub or the drive has a problem. Make sure it is together properly using the images below.

Hi John, this is a really helpful discussion. Given what I found when I lifted the top of the washer I have a feeling there is either a piece of clothing or a lot of gunk under the impeller. I got the 7/16 bolt out with a little WD-40 but I cannot get the impeller to lift out for the life of me. I've tried everything I can think of, including threading rope around it to pull and it will not come up. Any ideas??

Julia, I suspect there is just a residue build up hold the impeller in place. I recommend cleaning around where the bolt. A small wire brush will help cleaning around the bolt. Also, use a very small flat screwdriver to clean around the bolt. It will slowly loosen up.

Thanks, John. After several attempts with other products, I was finally able to break through all the buildup by pouring a slow and steady stream of boiling water over it for a few minutes. Worked its way thru and then i pulled up with a strap tied arpund the borton of the impeller... And now... I can't get the basket lifted put. Stuck stuck stuck. Any pointers there? I don't know what holds it in below so it's hard to figure out what would be effective. I have the tub ring, impeller, and basket hub off. Also, when I spin the tub around, just to try and get it moving a little, the center will turn along with it and then stick. Could that be a symptom of what's wrong overall (triggering the Sd code) or is that normal?

Julia, The tub sticking may be causing the error code. The images above shows how to take it apart.
