When it comes to taking parts off an appliance it can be really frustrating without any instructions. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, the model number you have provided seems to be incorrect, A suggestion I have is to look over model number and attach it below. Hope this helps!

You can unplug the washer and follow the steps shown in the image below to remove that impeller in this type of washer. You do not have to remove the spin basket. Once you remove the cap and that bolt that holds the impeller in place, you should be able to lift that component out. You may not need to lift the washer top if you are not completely removing that impeller.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Thank you for responding. The model number is correct, I can pull up info on the whirlpool site with it but I can't get the info I need. I am pretty handy with repairs so I think i can do it, but I have to figure out what is wrong first.

Thanks Lyle for responding. Since you do repairs, maybe you can help me figure out what is wrong. When I wash a lite load (t-shirts, underware, socks) the machine goes through the whole cycle and on the final rinse and spin it starts shaking and the UL code flashes. No matter how many times I adjust the clothes it doesn't help. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Does it perform that way when you have a full load in the washer? If not, you may need to add a towel or two to the light loads so that the washer can properly balance the garments in the spin basket. This washer can have problems balancing a small load. It spins at a very high speed (1000 rpm). See if the washer will spin properly when it is completely empty. If the washer has trouble spinning when it is completely empty, then I recommend that you UNPLUG it and remove that spin basket as shown in the image above. There is a chance that you have an item stuck in between the stainless steel spin basket and the outer tub. A problem with the bearing that is pressed into that outer tub could be causing this failure if the washer will not spin properly when it is completely empty. Check those issues and reply back to this thread. I will assist you all that I can so that you can get this problem resolved.

Hey Lyle, thanks again for responding I have tried on any size load, it still does it. I hadn't thought about doing it empty, I did and it sounds like a grinding noise, where it used to quiet before all of this started, and then it sounds like something is broke and goes to the UL code. I haven't pulled the basket out yet. Do I need to take the control panel off first? I'm good at following directions, I just want to do it right so I don't mess it up.

You should not need to take off that console but tape that lid closed before lifting the top panel. Don't forget to UNPLUG the washer first.

Good morning Lyle, I have a couple of questions first. My husband and I took the tub out of the machine last night and it had water in the inner bottom that we could not get out, should it be there and could that be causing it to get off balance? While we had it out we examined everything and it all looked fine. We put it back in and replaced all the parts and ran it empty and it work normal, so I washed a load of white clothes on quick wash and it worked fine then I decided to was some sheets, it went through the whole wash cycle until it got to the final drain and spin and it made the same noise and the UL code came on. After 2 times of rearrainging it finally sun out normally. Also yesterday I found out that the oringinal wash plate design was causing problems with tangeling, twisting, and bundeling clothes so they suggested replacing it but there was no recall. Do you have any suggestions?

Finding the cause of a continuing unbalanced load error can be difficult. The expert should be able to help pinpoint and resolve. I did locate two similar questions that may help while you wait. I attached the links below. I hope some of this information is helpful.

These links are good information but I need to know if there is any way to determine if the problem is the circuit board, the outer tub bearings, the suspension rods, or something else.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

This can be a difficult issue to diagnose. Check to see if you are getting the UL code even when the washer is completely empty. If you do, then you could have an item stuck between the spin basket and the outer washer tub. The first image below shows how to remove the spin basket on this type of Whirlpool washer. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

You need to cheek the tub ring. The tub ring contains water to help with balance. The bearings can make off balance an issue, turn the tub by hand to check for drag. The second image shows the suspension.

If you find no items between the spin basket and the outer tub, if the washer is not having any trouble with an unbalanced condition in the wash cycle before it gets to the high speed spin then you may need to replace the machine control board in the console. There really is no way to check the electronics. The third image shows how to replace the control board in this type of washer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or to purchase any parts needed; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here, and if I may be of further assistance, include more details in a reply to this post.
