Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Whirlpool washer.

From the information you have provided above, I can understand the frustration of having your washer malfunction, after researching model number WTW5550XW0. Yes, I would suggest replacing the motor coupler. This will cause the washer to not agitate, spin, or move on to the next cycle. It seems like this is causing the issues.  Below I have linked some information to help you out with the repair.

Q:

I have a Whirlpool T/L "Cabrio" Washer M#WTW5550XW0, S#C02830662 thats 3 years old. Problem has been that it is smelling funny. On a heavy load it smells

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It could emit hot or burning type odor if the washer has a heavy load.  The motor has to stop and reverse directions to achieve the agitation action and under a heavy load, it could get warmer than usual and emit an odor. If the washer is operating correctly and it's not stopping in the middle of any cycles, the washer is likely Okay and I would not be too concerned about the odor when washing heavy loads. You may want to reduce the size of the heavy load in the future. You can check the drive belt by tilting the washer back if needed.

If you feel something is wrong and you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link:Sears Home Services.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
