Question and Answers

Q:

GE Unitized Spacemaker dryer (WSM2700HAWWW) shuts off mid-cycle

A:

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your dryer not working properly. We are here to help. Based on the symptom, I suspect a weak dryer motor. You mentioned the dryer runs for 20 minutes and then stutters. Finally the overload trips and the dryer shuts off. Once the overload trips, the dryer will not start until it resets. That is the main indicator of a weak motor. Also, if the drum is too hard to turn, that will cause the motor to overheat tripping the overload. When the overload trips, it usually take 30 minutes to an hour to reset. Most likely replacing the motor should solve the problem. I hope this helps.

I've read a few blogs/help sites where people talk about replacing the timer on this and similar products (Kenmore, Frigidaire, Whirlpool), but nobody ever mentions how to remove the stubborn control knob. Ideally, I'd like to not destroy it and reuse it considering Sears wants $25 for a new one. In hopes to better explain, I took a few pictures. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the photos. On this timer there is a tab on the back of the timer that you need to pull out. I am sending you the step by step instructions in the attachment below. Remember to disconnect power before attempting access.
