Question and Answers

Q:

I get error code FE during the wash cycle. I believe that means the water inlet valve needs to be replaced. Is that a job a pretty handy DIY'er can do? WM2487HWMA Lg Residential washer

A:

Thank you for choosing sears I would be happy to help you with your washer. Upon researching model WM2487HWMA; the “FE” error code indicates that water is overflowing, drain pump will operate to drain water automatically. The water valve can cause this problem when it fails. I have posted a link below of the instruction of how to access the water valves on this model. Note: unplug washer power cord and shut off water supply before starting repair or disassembling unit.

I trust this information will help you, have a great day.

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

You can try to manually unlock the door by using these steps:

  1. Unplug the washer.
  2. Take the two screws holding the top on (on back of top panel).
  3. Push the top back and up.
  4. Look down into the right front side about midway down for the lock mechanism (see images below).
  5. Use a screwdriver to press the release.

If this does not work, you will have to force the door open by pulling it really hard. You will have to replace the lock assembly. Here is a video that demonstrates replacing the lock; Video . Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. The washer in this video may not look exactly like yours but the procedure is basically the same.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to purchase the lock and switch assembly for your LG model number WM2487HWMA washer .

I hope this is helpful, and if I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this post.
