Q:

Rubbing noise when washer spins WM2487HRMA Lg Residential washer

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I understand how important it is to be able to diagnose a problem in your washer. A rubbing noise can be caused by a broken door seal or something stuck between the drum and basket. Check your door seal for any tears. I have included instructions on the images below on how to disassemble your washer to check for foreign objects. If you are viewing this response on Sears PartsDirect and are unable to view the image, copy and paste the following web address to a seperate internet browser:

The Tub Clean cycle cannot be activated when you have  the SpinSense option selected. If that SpinSense is on, then you can cancel that and see if you can start the Tub Clean cycle.

I did not see that detail covered in the manual.

If you are having trouble with other features, reply with more details and we will try to assist you further.

The SpinSense isn't on either. I've tried resetting and even unplugging the washer to see if it would work, but it still wont activate the special functions. It used to work. I have used the tub clean cycle before. I moved last September and as far as I can recall, since then I haven't been able to use any of the special features. I don't know how that might affect anything unless there's some sort of computer chip or something that broke or came loose or something.

It is likely the main PCB control board that will need to be replaced to fix this problem. If you can get by without the special features, then I would continue to use the washer as is (unless it is still under warranty or an extended warranty agreement). If you want to replace that PCB control board and need more help, let us know.

Thanks. Is that expensive? Difficult? I got the washer second hand, so no warranty. But my roomate is an electrician, so if the part isn't too expensive and replacing it isn't especially difficult, then we might take the trouble to replace it. Otherwise, the washer works just fine. It would be nice to get rid of that slight musty smell though.

Hello again Kerry. I really don't recommend that you replace that control board at this time since all of the other cycles work properly. The cost/benefit off that repair is not worthwhile. I have the same type of washer so I know what you are describing in regards to the slight musty smell. I can help you eliminate that without using the Tub Clean cycle. You can just run a normal cycle with hot water and add about 3/4 cup of liquid chlorine bleach directly into the tub before you start that empty cycle. Let the washer run all of the way through that cycle. This should eliminate that odor. Repeat that process about once a month and you should have no problems. If you still smell that odor when you open the door, then you can use a diluted liquid chlorine bleach solution (1 cup bleach to 1 gallon of warm water) to wipe down the rubber door boot gasket. Wear protective gloves when handling that bleach solution. Make sure that you wipe down the entire boot including the areas inside the folds. Let the solution stand for about 5 minutes. Wipe the boot down with plain water and then run an empty cycle to completely rinse away any bleach residue. You can repeat that process as needed. Your manual shows how to check the large item filter in the bottom of the washer. Check that filter periodically. If you ever see mildew in that area, wipe it down with the diluted bleach solution. Here is a link for your manual in case you need it: Owners Manual . Page 29 shows how to check the filter in the drain pump. If you need any more help with eliminating and preventing the musty odor let us know. If you want to replace that main PCB control board, then the part will cost about $150. The process for replacing it involves these steps: Unplug the washer. Remove the top panel. Remove the cover from the control board. Note the location of wires connected to the existing control board. (Continued)

Remove the wires. Remove and replace the control board. Properly connect the wires to the new control board. Reassemble the washer. If you want to replace that control board and need more help, let us know. (If you do replace the control board, I recommend that you save the old one so that if that new one ever goes bad or gets damaged by a close lightning strike, you can install the old one back into the washer).

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is getting an error code on your washer. We are here to help. You should not have to drain the pump and clean the screen once a month. The only time you need to do this is if you notice some draining problem. That is providing that you are using the HE soap, which is the proper soap for all front load HE washers. If you are using the correct soap and making sure all pockets on clothes have been emptied before using washer then you are having problems with the pump. Anna did provide you a good link on that. I recommend using it for assistance. Just click here . I hope this helps.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. You may visit SearsHomeServices.com and click on the red Start now button.
