Thanks for the question about your washer model wm1815cs; sorry you are experiencing a problem. There are many components in your washer that can become noisy, and it is difficult to determine exactly where the noise is coming from.  There are drum bearings, motors, pump motors, and various moving parts that could be the source of your noise. I recommend having an experienced technician come and inspect your washer as an onsite inspection will be needed to pinpoint the source of the noise.    One quick check you could do is to open the access door on the front of the washer and check the filter for debris that may be the cause. I have attached images below that demonstrate how to clean the filter. You will need to open and view both to read in numerical order.I hope this helps if you need additional assistance please reply with more details and I will be happy to respond.  If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services. Ron H.

A:

Yeah, I was unable to find the part I need from the diagrams, and a direct email to them resulted in them not being able to tell which part I needed either. I'm hoping to avoid a service call at this point.

The part number for the door gasket that you are describing is 4986ER0006B. You can order it from the Sears PartsDirect website. The procedure for replacing the gasket is shown in the image below.

NOTE: This is an advanced procedure. It normally requires special tools to remove and replace the spring clamps on the gasket. I recommend that you carefully look at this procedure before ordering the gasket and attempting it. If you do want to replace the gasket yourself, I do recommend that you buy and use the inner and outer spring clamp tools (parts 383EER4001A and 383EER4004A). Attempting this procedure without using those tools can be very frustrating and difficult. I am not sure whether Sears PartsDirect sells these tools. I did find them available on the RepairClinic.com website, but they are expensive. Here are some links for the tools on that website: Spring Removal Tool - Inner , Spring Removal Tool - Outer

The cost of a technician will be about the same as the cost of these tools. You can schedule a Sears Technician to replace the gasket by visiting this Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

Before you decide to replace this gasket, I recommend that you try cleaning it one more time with a solution of liquid chlorine bleach and water. Mix 1 cup of liquid chlorine bleach with 1 gallon of warm water. Use protective gloves when handling this solution. Wipe down the entire gasket with the bleach solution and let is stand for 5 minutes. Wipe the gasket down with water and then run an empty cycle using hot water in the washer. See if this fixes your problem. If it does, then you can avoid replacing the gasket. If possible, leave the washer door open between cycles. Repeat the cleaning process periodically (once a month) to prevent the mold from returning. Periodically clean the drain pump as shown in your owner's manual periodically as well.

This information may help you resolve your washer problem. If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.
