Question and Answers

dryer not heating up to dry clothes wgd6400sw2

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when the dryer isn't heating properly.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Whirlpool model number WGD6400SW2.

When it comes to heating I like to remind everyone to first check the air flow of the dryer vents.  Pull out the lint screen and make sure the area the lint screen goes into is cleaned out.   If you don't have the special long brush to do that, I would highly advise you to get one so prevents things like this and fire hazzards.   Also check the vent area going outside the house and make sure it is clear also.

After you have checked the air may I ask is the dryer heating at all.   IF it is then  your heating element is good but if not you need to take a look at the heating element, after the heating element the next things to look at are the thermostats on the side of the heating element, then after that need to check the thermal fuse behind the blower.   Even if you find other parts bad, always check that thermal fuse too.

The items that I mentioned, the heating element, the thermostat, the thermal fuse can all be checked with a meter.   Just need to see if you have continuity going through.  Open circuits are bad and closed circuits are good.

Below is a link to all the parts that I mentioned to get checked on for the heating problems.

If you have further questions please let me know.

Thanks for choosing Sears
