Q:

error f71 for whirlpool duet steam washer wfw9600tw01 WFW9600TW01 Whirlpool Residential washer

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
I am sorry to hear about the error code you're receiving on the Whirlpool washer, I know how frustrating that is to have occur.
The F71 error code indicates 'USER INTERFACE HEARTBEAT FAILURE.' If a Central Control Unit Heartbeat Failure is displayed, no communication is detected from the User interface to the Central Control Unit.

Possible Causes/Procedure

1. Check for continuity of the User Interface harness.

2. Check wire harness connections to the User Interface and the Central Control Unit.

3. Replace User Interface if drum is rotating.

4. Replace Central Control Unit if drum is not moving.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-349-5071, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.
Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Hello Kristi,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having an F20 code occur and I would like to assist you with it. The F20 code is an indication of your washer not detecting water entering it. It may occur with water making it into the machine and without water coming in. Before attempting to diagnose or repair any appliance, be sure that the unit is unplugged from the wall outlet.

If there is no water coming in, the first place to start is with the water supply hoses. Shut the water valve off and remove the hose. Be ready because there will be a small amount of water in the hose and it will come out when they are removed. Remove the hose and inspect the filter screen for debris. There are screens on the valve inlets at the back of the machine and these may sometimes become clogged with debris from the pipes.

If there is water entering the machine, the F20 is usually due to the system that senses the water level in the machine. The pressure switch or hose are usually the cause of the machine "thinking" that it is not filling with water. If the hose is cracked or otherwise leaks air pressure, the switch will not send the signal to the computer that the water level has came up. The switch can also fail to send the signal to the computer and this will also create the same failure code. I have included a diagram that has the pressure switch and hose circled, at the end of this reply.

Remove the lid that is on top of the machine by removing the three screws on the back of the machine at the top and that will gain access to the switch and hose. Remove the hose and blow through it, there should be very minimal restriction. If that is ok, you will want to completely remove the hose and check it for leaks. To do this remove the lower cover to access the hose at the bottom of the tub. Leaks sometimes occur at points along the hose that have been rubbing on the tub or cabinet. If you are certain that the hose is not plugged or leaking, the pressure sensor has most likely failed and it is an analog type and difficult to test, your best bet would to be to make sure that the wire connectors are seated on it and the other end on the cable at the electronic control and retry it. If still no change, replace the pressure sensor. Sears Parts Direct is a direct link to parts for your washer model.

Please let me know if you would like any further assistance.

I have the same problem with my whirlpool duet, but have replace the switch and hose and checked connections but still get F20 code. I can put a very small load of two towels and the F20 does not error. What else could cause f20 if water source is good and pressure switch good?

Q:

Whirlpool WFW9600TW01 Getting F35 still after replacing pressure switch

A:

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your washer. An F35 error code does indicate a miscommunication with the pressure switch. There are a very other things that can cause this, including a loose wire harness connection. I would suggest that you check to make sure all of the connections are secure. If they are then you could be looking at a faulty flow meter, or cold water valve. In order to know which part is causing the problem you will need to test them. I would suggest you begin with the water valve. You need 120 vac in order to it to open. If you are not getting this replace the water valve. If you are, then replace the flow meter. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, please click on this link to schedule service: Sears Home Services. Click on "Get Started" and follow the directions, click on the red "NEXT" button to continue. I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help. Thank you for using Manage My Life.com.

Is there a way to test the flowmeter rather than just replacing it. I own and know how to use a multimeter. There is flow through the flow meter. I blew air through it and it turns.

Then you will need to test the water valves. If they are not opening, then this will cause a problem with the unit. If the valves are working, then you will need to test the connection between the pressure switch and the control board. Since we know the pressure switch is not the problem, it will most likely be the control board. Please let me know if there is anything else you need. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your washer. The F35 indicates a water level pressure sensor failure. A loose wire harness connection could be causing this problem if there is no water or suds in the tub. I recommend unplugging the washer and removing the top panel. Screws at the very back of the top panel secure it to the washer frame. Remove the screws and then pull the top panel slightly back and then up and off of the washer. The analog water level pressure sensor is shown in the first image below. The second image shows a clear picture of this component. Check the wire harness connection on this sensor. If you find a loose connection, secure the wire harness properly on the component then reassemble and test the washer. If you continue to get the F35 code, then the pressure switch will need to be replaced. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your washer. I recommend that you unplug the washer and check the wire harness connections between the analog pressure sensor and the main electronic control board. If the wire harness connections are good, then the next step would be to replace the analog pressure sensor. This will likely fix your problem.

The part number for the analog pressure sensor is W10156252. You can order this part from Sears Parts Direct .

If the error still occurs after replacing the analog pressure sensor, then you could have a wire harness problem or a failed electronic control board. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Laura - There is a 'Shop Manual' for this series of washers at:

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/eab852a13fbc842085256aa200643dd6/$FILE/Duet%20Job%20Aid.pdf

This may be of some help in locating and accessing the components Anne, above, has referenced.

Prior to ordering a new analog pressure sensor I would check that the tube leading to it is not blocked or holed.

Good Luck.

Thank you for submitting your question and I will be happy to assist you. To clear the SUDS out, your can do a white vinegar wash. On a hot water cycle drop a half of a cup of white vinegar into the dispenser and let the washer run through a cycle. The wiring diagram is provided below in the first image for the analog switch that you replaced to the control board. If this does not resolve the issue, then you're probably experiencing an issue with the pump and it may need to be replaced. The drain pump on this washer can be checked with an ohm/volt meter. Here's a video on how to use a ohms/volt meter. Your pump runs on 120 volts. Use extreme caution if you check voltage to the pump. For ohm's, you'll want to get 15.8 ohms on the pump. If it reads anything other than that, then it's bad. The pump replacement information is provided in the image below. The water pump is part number 280187 priced at $126.90. You can order parts from our Sears Parts Direct team. I hope this information helps. If you require further assistance, please reply back to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

I need part W10156252 and the manufacturer doesn't make it anymore. I can't afford a new washer what else can I do?

A:

I can understand how difficult a problem like this can be. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I have found a link that will provided some troubleshooting tips. I would also suggest that you run your washer empty, on cold water. You may also want to try putting white vingear in the washer. This will help getting rid of any build up in the pump. I hope that this link will help.

The W10156252 pressure switch is not entirely no longer available.

If you need one you can get one at the following link: RepairClinic.com. The switch will cost about $114.35.

You might first remove the top of the washer to asscess the switch and check the clear plastic hose is not kinked or twisted.

With the washer empty you can remove the hose and blow through the hose towards the tub and clear out any obstruction. Put the hose back on the switch and give it a try.

I hope this helps.

I'm in the same boat. The part is on backorder. My washer is only 2 1/2 years old. I get suds then F35 error. After some research I've tried pulling the tube out from the pressure switch and still no luck. Any advice on where to get the part or fix it is much appreciated. I've been disappointed that I splurged on an appliance I thought would last a long time. All I get from Sears is that I should spend more money on their MPA for this type of situation. The best part is that I can't even sign up for it if I wnted to right now because the appliance has to be in working order. What happened to quality and customer service? I don't know that I'll ever buy at Sears ever again.

It will not be available till June 3rd. Having to wait another week and a half is still a problem but at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
