A:

I completely understand your concern over wanting to know why the console to both your washer and dryer would crack and malfunction. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.

I understand your concerns with this issue. I checked both models for any recalls for this console or service flashes for the plastic cracking.  I was not able to find a documented history of problems.  There are some customer reports, but not widespread.  If the washer is working and you choose to continue to use as is, cleaning it as stated, then I respect that choice.  The danger is just what you mentioned; moisture, heat , dust getting inside and affecting the user interface and other electronic components. The only recommended solution is to replace the console for both the washer and dryer. If you decide to replace, you can order the parts here; Sears Parts Direct .  The console for the washer is part #W10132001  and #W10099598(white), #W10099631 9black), or #W10182077(Ocean sapphire) for the dryer.  I wish I had better news.  If I can help further, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I've had the same problem - in fact I've had to replace the front panel et least 5 times since purchasing my washer in 2007. While the Sears Master Protection Agreement has taken care of this for me, I've had to keep paying for that extended warranty for the sole purpose of replacing front panels.

Q:

washer knob WFW8400TW03 Whirlpool Residential washer

A:

Thank you for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

I am really sorry to hear about the accident while moving the washer, I know how frustrating that is.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the shaft the knob connects to is red in color and is part of the electronic control board, and is not an individually replaceable part.

I suspect that the electronic control board will need to be replaced in order to fix the washer. You can undo the control panel and visually inspect the control board where the shaft protrudes to confirm, but upon my visual inpsection of the knob shaft, which is red, my thought is the shaft broke as well.

For convenience, I have included a blue link below that you may click on to be directed to the PartsDirect page to view and purchase the board if needed.

Thanks. The washer was working fine until last night. Door was stuck on being locked. I was able to get the lock open but, now there is this issue with it shutting down after a few seconds. There aren't many clothes in the washer - seems to be something more mechanical.

Thank you for submitting your question and will I will be happy to assist you. Before continuing on with the wash cycle, you must first drain the washer. Run a drain/spin cycle to remove the water. If the water does not remove from the tub, then you're experiencing a draining issue which is usually caused by a clogged drain filter or the drain pump itself. To clean the filter for your washer machine follow these steps:

  1. First, disconnect the power from the washer.
  2. Remove the screws along the bottom of the lower access panel and pull the panel down and off.
  3. Be sure the washer has been drained of all water. NOTE : Have a shallow pan and a large old towel handy because some water will pour out once the filter cap is removed.
  4. Rotate the filter cap (key#14) counterclockwise and pull cap off.
  5. Clean debris out of the lint filter and reverse the procedure to reinstall filter cap and panel.

If this does not resolve your problem, please reply back to this thread with more details. I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing Manage My Life.
