Question and Answers

dryer will not get hot wed9400su

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears
I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there are problems with the dryer.
Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Whirlpool Dryer model number wed9400su0.

First thing for safety and concerns to keep dryer running well is to check the lint screen and vent of air flow going out of the house.   If clogged up it could cause heating problems on any dryer.
To prevent a Blocked Vent Hood, once a year:
1.  Clean any lint blockage from the exhaust vent hood.
2.  Make sure the vent hood flappers move freely.
3.  Check for screen/grate openings that allow bird or rodent nests.
4.  Replace exhaust vent hood if damaged.
5.  Check for good air flow while running the dryer.
Note: Poor airflow or decreased airflow indicates further vent system cleaning is needed.

When the dryer won't get hot this is the list of things to check.   Make sure you check them all being it could be a mixture of parts.

When it comes to Electric dryers here are all the options to check on when not heating.
All can be checked with an Ohm meter for its continuity open or closed.
You can see all these on the link below when clicked on.
Heating element which is key number 14
Thermal cut off switch which is both key 47 and key 48 together
ON the back of the blower is thermal fuse key number 59
Also on the back of the blower internal thermostat key number 42
Make sure you always keep  your lint screen areas clean.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with your future questions and repairs.  Thank you for choosing Sears and using our

Whirlpool Duet Dryer with an F1 code WED9400SU0

Thanks for the inquiry and for using
I am sorry to hear of the issue you are having with the Whirlpool duet dryer giving the F1 error code, I know how frustrating that is to have occur.
The F1 error code indicates a 'Primary Control Failure' and the resolution is to replace the machine control electronics.
The machine control electronics refers to the motor control board, part number W10110641, but it would be worth it to check on the electrical connectors to make sure everything is secure with not cut or open wires. In cases such as this, Sears recommend to have a technician involved to helps repair and diagnose the issue.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-349-5071, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.
Hope this helps and thanks for using

Whirlpool Dryer

Thank you for your question. Something like this will require using a volt/ohm meter to track down where we are loosing voltage to the motor at. When you set the timer contacts BK to BU have to close, this sends voltage to the push to start relay from there voltage goes through the thermal fuse to one side of the motor. Neutral voltage to the motor comes from the door switch. Another possibility is a short in the wiring harness, door switch. If you find an open thermal fuse be sure to check for a shorted to case heating element & have the exhaust venting cleaned out & checked for blockage. Remember to use extreme caution when working with live voltage & disconnect power before attempting repairs. Order all your parts at
