Question and Answers

Q:

Dryer wont start WED5100VQ0 Whirlpool Residential dryer

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your dryer. Upon researching modelWED5100VQ0; the unit could have lint build up. The buildup will cause the unit to build up too much heat. That could cause the fuse to blow out. Clean out all the lint from the unit and the exhaust hose.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Q:

Bad switch? WED5100VQ0 Whirlpool Residential dryer

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your dryer is not working properly.

How to test push to start switch:
To test this component, unplug the dryer and access the switch in the console. Check the continuity through the contacts where the blue wires are attached. Without the button pushed, you should measure infinite resistance (open). Push the button and hold it in. Measure the resistance through the leads with the button pushed in. You should measure near zero ohms of resistance (closed) while the button is pushed in. If not, then the switch is bad and will need to be replaced.

The door switch could also cause the dryer not to start.
You can also check is to the door switch. You can open the dryer door & press in on the door switch with your finger, you should hear & feel a click. If the door switch is not responding you will need to replace it.

Q:

Heat and timer quit working WED5100VQ0 Whirlpool Residential dryer

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there are problems with the dryer.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Whirlpool Dryer model number WED5100VQ0.

First thing for safety and concerns to keep dryer running well is to check the lint screen and vent of air flow going out of the house.   If clogged up it could cause heating problems on any dryer.

To prevent a Blocked Vent Hood, once a year:

1.  Clean any lint blockage from the exhaust vent hood.
2.  Make sure the vent hood flappers move freely.
3.  Check for screen/grate openings that allow bird or rodent nests.
4.  Replace exhaust vent hood if damaged.
5.  Check for good air flow while running the dryer.
Note: Poor airflow or decreased airflow indicates further vent system cleaning is needed.

When it comes to Electric dryers here are all the options to check on when not heating.
All can be checked with an Ohm meter for its continuity open or closed.

You can see all these on the link below when clicked on.

Heating element which is key number 17

Thermal cut off switch which is both key 9 and key 15 together

ON the back of the blower is thermal fuse key number 7

Also on the back of the blower internal thermostat key number 8

Make sure you always keep  your lint screen areas clean.

These items aren't hard to fix.   Just need an ohmmeter to verify the continuity.
