Question and Answers

Q:

What is wrong with my GE modle WCRE6270D0WW washer when it won't spin?

A:

The washer will not spin but you move the tub back and the belt starts turning.

You don't mention anything about the agitation cycle. If the motor will agitate then most likely the motor is okay. You say the basket doesn't spin and the motor and belt don't move until you move the tub and put slack on the belt.

If the motor starts to run when you put slack on the belt it's possible the no spin problem is caused by a locked up spin bearing.

If the motor won't turn until you put slack on the belt then most likely the spin bearing is bad.

If the motor will agitate but won't spin even with slack on the belt then the no spin problem can be caused by the control or lid switch.

Q:

How do I open my GE washer to check to see if the belt is broken?

A:

There are two clips located between where the top meets the front panel. Use a thin putty knife to push and release the clips. Pull the top of the front panel towards you and then lift the front panel up and off.

If the belt is not broken and the belt is turning the gear case pulley and the gear case assembly is not turning would indicate a gear case failure.

I added an image below with instructions. You will not need to remove the top.
