Thank you for your question.

I can understand you wondering with all that suction why is the vacuum not working.

It sounds like the idler tension arm is not tightening the drive belt.

You will need to remove the knobs on the top vacuum and remove the top cover and then remove the sole plate on the bottom to gain access to the roller brush and examine to see if the belts are broken or not engaging.

The drive will not work until the lean the handle down from the upright position and also the roller brush.

If you remove those covers you will discover what the problem is.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I have the exact same problem with my brush/roller not turning, AND the RED light is ALWAYS ON. Have disassembled as Sam A Expert described: Both belts are in excellent condition (vacuum less than six months old), however the idler tension arm seems to very little tension. Appears to be defective to me. How can I increase the tension?

Thank you for your question. If you unit is less than 1 yr. old I would take it in for service. This will be a covered repair on this unit. There sounds like there is a problem with the idler arm. You could check your shifter cable to make sure when you push and pull the handle it is applying pressure to the forward and reverse clutches on the drive unit. But I would suggest that you take it in for service. Thank you for using Manage My Life. Sam A.

Thank you Thomas for your question on the dirt sensor light is still on. It sounds like the dirt sensor lens has build up on it and needs to be cleaned. If this is a Hoover upright vacuum cleaner remove the bag and clean the bag mount tube behind the bag in the hole chamber with a damp cloth wrap around the handle of a screwdriver. If this does not fix the problem please reply with the model number of your vacuum cleaner and we can continue to troubleshoot with that information. Sam A.
