Q:

Why does my Whirlpool compactor model TU900QPDB0 shimmy with a loud noise at the end of the cycle?

A:

From the description you give the most likely cause of this problem would be the top limit switch.

If the power screws or ram was the cause of the noise you should hear it going down and coming up.

If the ram is not hitting the top limit switch or if the switch is bad then when the ram comes back up it will not shut off and would be quiet noisy.

I'd recommend you remove the top of the compactor and visually check if the ram is hitting the top limit switch when it comes back up. The instructions to remove the top are in the image below.

The limit switch may be broken or the metal tab that the ram pushes may be bent.

I hope this information is helpful to you in resolving this problem but you can submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
