Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It's not abnormal to see the top of the door shift one way or the other as the ram is compacting. This is usually caused by what's in the trash bin. Bottles, cans, water bottles with the cap left on, or any hard object sitting left or right of center will cause more resistance on the ram and cause the door to shift left or right and in some cases, the trash bin may kick open enough to cause the unit to stop running.

If the ram is going down and coming back up without any abnormal noises then I would have to assume there is nothing wrong with the trash compactor.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thank you for your quick response. I put a new bag in and it's empty. It shifted just a touch for a second.. Makes me wonder if something is stuck on the plate...

Cami: The ram is not supposed to touch the bottom of the drawer; it supposed to get close but not touch so there is a possibility of something being stuck on the bottom of the ram causing the ram to bottom out at the bottom of the drawer when empty. If you do not find anything stuck at the bottom of the ram I would not be too concerned with the drawer shifting one way or the other for a second or two.
