I know how it feels trying to diagnose a garage door. The blinking light is a diagnostic. The number of blinks will determine the fault. Since the door will close by holding down the wall switch, this would be a safety sensor or sensor wiring issue. Holding down the button at the wall switch basically overrides the sensor. I recommend making sure the sensors are aligned and their holders are secure. Clean the sensor lenses. Unplug the the opener . Check the wiring from the sensors to the switch. Any break in wiring will cause the problem. Check the connections inside the bell switch. Count the blinks on the motor unit. That will help diagnose. Verify the garage door is running smoothly and there is not bulging in its frame. After checking the wiring to the switch, check the wiring to the motor unit. Verify the connections are secure. If the problem continues, please reply back with the number of blinks and the model number located on the overhead motor unit. It probably begins with 139. I hope this information helps. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

update.. it was the eye.. but believe it or not its the sun.. during the day the sun shines in at one of the optical eyes at an angle and for some reason interrupts the signal.. when the sun is not there or I stand in the way of it the remote works fine.. not sure if anyone else have ever experienced this before.

Thank you for the reply. I am glad the problem is identified. Yes, sunlight is a common problem when the sun changes horizons in the winter. You may be able to block some of it by fitting a little shade. Try cutting a tissue holder roller to fit just enough to block the sunlight. I hope this helps.
