A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your television. I am so sorry you are having problems with it. I know the TV is a key component in our daily lives and know you want to get it working quickly. In this case I recommend you have this tested and repaired by a qualified technician. Internal components of the TV can retain dangerous high electrical charges even when the TV is disconnected from the power supply.

Here at SearsPartsDirect.com, we love to help you with your home repairs but in this case, for your safety, we recommend you have the TV serviced. If you would like a Sears technician to complete the repair, you can set up service at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter. I hope we can help you with any future repairs. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Thanks for the link. This tv does not have a service agreement since it was bought in 2007. I know that there are a number of boards that can be replaced on this. I just would like to know which one would cause this problem or if is another type of part that I need.

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your TV picture turning red. We are here to help. Based on the symptom, I suspect a bad solder connection on the video board or the main circuit board of the TV. The picture being fine a few days indicates that. If you know how to solder on pc boards, this should be a simple fix. However, if you bridge a solder connection or forget to plug in a wire, you can kill the TV. That is why I recommend letting a trained technician fix the TV. I provided a link below for service. I hope this helps.

If you do not feel comfortable repairing this problem yourself or if it is under warranty, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears Technician. You may visit SearsHomeServices.com and follow the instructions, then click on the red next now button.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

John thanks for the info. I tried unplugging it again yesterday to reset it, and it worked but then when I turned it on again this morning it was red again. I tried to unplug it again today, and had it unplugged for about 2 hours but the tv did not reset. sSo I will try to keep it unplugged a bit longer and see if that works again. Can a technician tell where the bad solder is without having to replace the entire boards?

A:

Maryann, A TV technician can spot a cold solder connection. Sometimes there is more than one bad connection. That is normal.
