Question and Answers

Q:

How do I raise the top in order to remove and replace the ignitor?

A:

Do not attempt to raise the top until you have removed the screws securing the sealed burner bases to the main top. The ignitor wire should disconnect from the ignitor by pulling the wire off. See images below.

Q:

Why won't the over come on even though the igniter is?i have a gas stove and the oven will not come on, this is a whirlpool, the resisitor gets red

A:

The part you see glowing is the oven igniter and if it is glowing then the thermostat and voltage is okay. The most likely problem when the igniter glows but the oven does not ignite is a bad safety valve.

The safety valve is located in the back of the oven and the burner sits on it. The part number for the valve is 814412 and is available from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

I hope this information is helpful resolving your problem but if you have any additional questions then submit another question with additional details for further assistance.
